Eugenio Lucas Villamil wurde 1858 als Sohn des ebenfalls tätigen Eugenio Lucas Velázquesz geboren. Lucas Villamil war erst 12 Jahre alt, als sein Vater starb, aber wie dieser orientierte er sich am großen Vorbild Francisco des Goyas. Der Einfluss Goyas ist auch bei diesem Gemälde deutlich spürbar, das eine vielfigurige Szene auf der regennassen Plaza de Toros in Madrid, der Stierkampfarena zeigt.
Eugenio Lucas Villamil was the son of the painter Eugenio Lucas Velázques and was just 1 years old when his father died. Like his father he orientated himself on the great Francisco de Goya, and his influence is clearly evident in the present work. The piece shows a lively scene in the Plaza de Toros in Madrid after a shower of rain.
